Daily Blog…..May 13 2020 Football .… An Essential Part Of Funding High School Athletics
As we near the end of school year and celebrate the “Class of 2020”, the details are uncertain. Hopefully, a virtual graduation with the possibility of a more traditional ceremony later in the summer. Our Area school districts are doing their best to offer the best graduation ceremony possible for the graduates. Students and parents should be very thankful for the efforts of their County and school Administration.
There is also uncertainty as we look to the future and hopes of returning to school and athletics later this summer. Plans are in the works for a return to school in August. Athletics in the fall will depend on a return to school. The N.C. Board of Education and NCHSAA (North Carolina High School Athletic Association) will make the final decision.
In hopeful news, the NCHSAA will end the “Coronavirus Dead Period” they put in place on June 1 2020. The dead period was put in place on March 13. The NCHSAA will put plans for summer workouts and the fall sports season on hold until State Government and health officials plans are approved.
High School Athletics are partially funded by the Athletic and Program Booster Clubs at each school. They rely heavily on fundraising, game admission and concessions to fund the programs. With that said, football is the largest producer of funds because the home games produce the most fans and gate receipts during the season. With the Covid-19 Pandemic crisis putting a damper on fundraising, the booster club will need help meeting the challenges.
Join your schools “Athletic Boosters” today. Without them, it would difficult to fund athletic programs at your favorite school!!!
