Mason French – Topsail Youth Sports Daily “ YOUTH SPOTLIGHT ATHLETE”

In the year 2020 Topsail Youth Sports Daily will put added emphasis on putting our young athletes in the limelight with a weekly “Youth Spotlight Athlete”. The feature will not focus on the stats of the youth athlete but more of just finding the kid that the staff, league official or coach nominates for the feature each week.

On Saturday I decided to go out to Topsail Middle School to check out some of the TBA  (Topsail Basketball Association) Youth League action. The 5th-6th  grade boys division games were being played at the time. I was impressed with some of the talent level of some of young basketball players. With that said, I noticed a player that seemed to be the leader of his team. His mechanics and technique kind of stood out. His unselfish play and attitude on the court was outstanding. When his team needed a big play Mason made it happen.  I had found the spotlight youth athlete.

Topsail Middle School  6th grader Mason French was the kid.  I met with Mason and his parents after the game. Not surprising, I found out that he played on this years Topsail Middle School basketball team. Mason also spends a lot of time on the baseball field. He plays in Supper Optimist youth league in Wilmington as well as the Ogden Hurricanes travel team.  In the spring Mason hopes to play baseball at Topsail Middle School. When not on the court or field he is a Carolina Tarheel and Atlanta Braves fan.

Mason is a busy young man. Playing youth sports and having fun is what it is all about. Congrats!! Mason French …..this weeks Topsail Youth Sports Daily “Youth Spotlight Athlete”.
