North Topsail Elementary 5^th Grader – Mason Jones – Multi-Youth Sport Athlete – Football – Lacrosse and Basketball

The Multi- Sport Athlete in times past referred to high school student athletes competing in more than one sport. Times have changed over the last several years. Many of the youth spotlight features on TYSD Media are kids that compete in more than one sport, some include recreation, school sports as well as travel team and showcase tournaments. Young athletes in elementary school get an early start on what it takes to be a student athlete. With a busy sports schedule, many kids also are honor roll students in school.

North Topsail Elementary fifth grader Mason Jones competes year- round in youth basketball, football, and lacrosse. Mason is also an honor student in school.

Mason got started with youth sports at the age of four with the Wake County NC youth recreation basketball program. After a family move to Hampstead NC Jones has competed with the Topsail Basketball Association program and will this winter compete as a fifth grader. Mason attended the NC State basketball youth camp this past summer, his team won the end of week championship game.

Jones is currently playing football in the Topsail Junior Pirate Football & Cheer Program. Mason competes with the 10U Black team as a running back and linebacker and defensive team captain for the Junior Pirates. Next spring, Mason will begin his 5^th season with the NFL Flag Youth Football season.

Mason added Lacrosse to his youth sports agenda, getting his start with Topsail Youth Lacrosse League. This past summer Jones attended Barton College Lacrosse Camp. At camps end, Mason was named “Camper of Week” for his age group. In the fall he competes in the TYLA Friday Night Lights program at Kawanis Park in Hampstead. Jones also a member of Shamrocks Travel Lacrosse Program.

Mason has a very busy youth sports schedule, when not in school or on the field or court, he works with a trainer to improve speed and agility skills.
