Topsail Middle School – Davis Modlin- Passion and Commitment to Baseball -Began at Young Age
Many years ago, on a ride through the neighborhood, you would see young kids on an open lot or field playing baseball. Back in the day, if a kid wanted to play baseball, that was the only option. Little League at that time was 9-12 years old. No T-Ball, No Coach Pitch or Minor Leagues.
In writing feature articles on our area youth athletes, you find that many of them begin playing as young as four years old. As young athletes reach middle school age, for parents and sons and daughters, life becomes much more hectic. Finding that balance of school (academics) private lessons, school sports regular season and travel ball practices and weekend games can be very challenging. On a positive note, the busy schedule offers lessons of time management for the young athletes to become better student athletes.
Topsail Middle School seventh grader Davis Modlin started playing baseball at 5 years old in the Topsail Ball Club T-Ball program in Hampstead NC. After a family move, he continued with the Dixon Youth league baseball program in Sneads Ferry NC until age 11.
M0dlins passion and love for baseball grew as he started Travel Team baseball. Davis was part of the Eastern North Carolina White Caps travel team until the age of 12. At age 13 Modlin moved to and is currently part of the Titans Baseball (Max Velocity) program in Hampstead NC.
Davis completed his first season of middle school baseball this spring as a sixth grader. He was part of the Topsail Middle School baseball team. The Pirates finished the season undefeated regular season and tournament Pender County Middle School Champions.
Davis earned a spot on the 2021 Top Gun Allstars and was named Top Gun All American.
A time management lesson for Student Athletes. In the spring, Davis juggled Topsail Middle School baseball practices and games twice a week, Titans travel team practice two times a week and weekend travel ball tournaments. A very busy schedule, all while maintaining straight A average in school. Davis earned a Math Achievement Award, as well as A Honor Roll at the Topsail Middle School Awards Banquet.
That is Time Management….That is a Student Athlete!!
