In high school sports, one of the keys to success on the field or court is team leadership. What players on the team are leaders. With that said, it is not always the most vocal player, the one that wants to stand out. In some cases that is a detriment of good leadership. Many players are non vocal, quiet leaders that lead by example with their work ethic and attitude at practice and on the field or court. Topsail softball player Tyesha Williams is that player for the Lady Pirates.
Williams a Junior outfielder for the Topsail Lady Pirates has got the job done on the softball field and in the classroom. Tyesha during her sophomore season committed to Boston College as a softball player for the Lady Eagles after high school.
Williams love for the game of softball began at a young age playing Dixie Youth Softball. Tyesha and the North Carolina Team won the 2014 X Play Angels World Series Championship. Williams had some impressive stats for Topsail in her 2019 sophomore season. A .492 Batting Average..30 runs scored…25 RBI… 32 base hits including 6 Doubles, 5 Triples and 1 Home Run. In the current 2020 season Tyesha was off to another her impressive start before the suspension of the season.
Williams has been honored with several All Area Team selections In the 2019 season Tyesha was named “Mideastern 3A/4A Conference Co-Player Softball Player of the Year”.
Topsail head softball coach Eric Phillips speaks highly of Tyesha. “Tyesha is very quiet, she lets her play on the field speak for its self,” said Phillips. “ Tyesha is one of the most coachable kid I’ve worked with. She has a great family, A great kid and a pleasure to coach.”
